Shania Twain, A Pretty Cool Lady

Although born in WINDSOR ONTARIO (woohoo for our hometown ladies and gents) Shania Twain was raised in Timmins, in a large and struggling family.  She began performing in her bedroom alone to  ease her mind and soon enough was playing in clubs, nursing homes and any other place she could get booked at the young age of just 8 years old.
As the eldest of five children, when her parents passed away in 1987, Twain was only 21 and took on the responsibility of raising her siblings.  Six years later she landed a record deal and that same year was married.
Late 1994 Twain's first real "hit" single made its way up the country charts all the way to the eleventh spot; "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under" was a break through song for the young performer.

Shania is the best selling female country artist of all time, and like Garth has retired from the touring life, making her a Country Music Legend. However, throughout the late 1990's she continued to release two more albums and released her last album in 2002 titled "Up!"  Feature hits on the album include: "I'm Gonna Getcha Good."

Other major hits by the artist include "Come On Over" and "You're Still The One."

Shania is a fabulous artist who I have personally always idolized, beginning with a performance at the Calgary Fair in which Shania winked at me in the audience.  My personal favourite song, "Honey, I'm Home" was also the song in which she was performing while this wink occurred.

Well, a Shania impersonator, but I was three years old so I didn't know any better.  Either way, many of her songs feature a country-pop mix and have always been excellent to sing along to while driving or even to listen to while procrastinating a blog for your High School English class.
Enjoy her beauty and talent, and learn more about her at her own website, where i found a majority of this information, and if you're lucky maybe you'll be able to go see her first real performance in years on December 14th.

  1. I had no idea Shania first started singing when she was 8, and I also didn`t know she grew up struggling with family problems. It just goes to show that you should never give up on your dreams no matter what it takes or how hard you may think it is. Shania Twain is a true inspiration! When I was little I always use to listen to her songs, and I knew all the words. My favorite song was who's bed have your boots been under!

    1. Yeah it's crazy how much you can learn about someone when you research. I had no idea of the extent of her family problems either! But yes, she is a great role model for every young person to follow your dreams no matter how tough it may be, and if you really want something you can succeed. I really see how that lesson could apply to you so much with your racing! Thank you for commenting, makes me happy to know someone else my age listened to Shania as a kid too! :)

I never knew she started singing when she was 8 years old and had that much of an inspiring story. Her voice is flawless and will forever be unique. My favorite album of hers would have to be "Up!". This blog has really opened up my eyes to how much she has gone through to get to wear she is today and that she inspires me tremendously. Her music style touches a wide variety of different genres, which makes her that much more amazing! Love this blog post, really brought me back to my younger days :) aha

  3. It did the same for me! She's such an idol for everything she's been through and how successful she's been despite her rough past. I really hope some day she starts performing and making music again, would it not be awesome? Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed my blog, the next few artists I will be writing about you may also know so stay posted! :)

  4. This is very interesting because growing up I loved Shania Twain! I remember having the karaoke soundtrack of Shania Twain and having the song, " Man I feel like a woman" put on repeat every day. I think she is a real inspiration considering all she went through.
